After picking my car up from the shop, I nearly slammed into a Jeep after not realizing I had to push the brakes a lot harder than usual. This is what I get for driving my dad’s Mercury Tracer for a week, which, despite drum brakes, stops very well thanks to weighing about 700 pounds less than my car, whose brakes need to be squeezed to within about an inch of their life despite being discs all around (surprising for 1991).

Is the power assist working properly on your car? Sounds like you are not getting the assistance the brakes need.
